Hard Disks from Windows XP ?

    Hi all,

What are the rules for migrating disks from windows XP to 7 ? I've got 2 hard disks that just have data on. One of them can be seen fine, the other appears as unformatted, even though it isn't.
I'm guessing its something to do with the amount of customised permissions one of the disks has on its folders that were set up in XP. Do I need to go back to XP, remove all complex permissions, then go back to Windows 7 ?

    Any suggestions are welcome !

Hi Mike, and Welcome to the Seven Forums

Have seen this in the past and what has worked for me is to, using an administrator account, take ownership of the complete drive, (allowing to cascade down to lower levels), and then giving the account in use full rights to the drive (again allowing the rights to cascade).

That should allow you to access everything and apply whatever rights you need to the sub levels

    Hope that helps
