The reason i believe i need a new mobo

If this is true, what motherboard should i get to get rid of this problem?
if this may not be the problem, anyone have any ideas? i've done EVERYTHING but cannot pinpoint the problematic part.
Suggestions for motherboards please. DDR3, 9.6x12in. AMD Phenom X4 965 x4 3.4ghz 125w CPU.
Have you contacted Asus to see what they have to say, and if necessary RMA the board?
If you want a new board, how much are you looking to spend?

That one looks good! Unfortunately when going to look for something other then an Asus board here for a new build I ended up with the Gigabyte model seen at Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-790XTA-UD4 AM3 AMD 790X SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
None of the MSI boards found at the time had USB 3.0 ports! while I was hoping to run into one! This one requires a PS/2 keyboard not simply a PS/2 adapter on a usb model in order to use the F keys at post.
Other then that the board has one other item requiring 1.5v memory which ended seeing the first OCZ Gold DDR3 memory replaced with the only correct voltage found with the Mushkin Enhanced. While 1.9v will run the memory clock is limited to see 1066 or 1333 when having 1600mhz memory installed if not 1.5v.
The same model cpu is in use here without any problems in that area however.
That's an odd issue.
I have a gigabyte board - Intel based (GA-X58A-UD5) and I'm running a Logitech Wireless keyboard. In fact I haven't had a PS/2 keyboard in 2 years and my "F" keys work just fine without a PS/2 connection. I even had a Wireless Microsoft keyboard on an Intel MB and the F keys worked without issue, again, no PS/2.
Anyways have you checked the BIOS settings for "Legacy USB" settings or something like that? If not, look for that setting, toggle it, and see if you can use the keyboard without the PS/2 connection.
I originally had the MSI 790FX board in my system. There wasn't anything wrong with it, but I fried the original PSU (defective) at a 20% overclock during stability tests and the memory controller was never right at any OC setting afterwards. I reached a temperature stable 60% OC (5.1 GHz @64c) for 3 hours of prime95 with the new board and PSU, I backed it down when I realized I was probably close tor maxing out the new PSU as well.. can't say enough good things about it about it.
I found this one quite odd as well when first getting into the new build. Note the usb keyboard option is already enabled by default while the F12 key and other F keys simply won't work until the OS whether in 7 or when going to boot from a live media starts loading up.
The final solution found for live boots or other options was to keep a small rollaway "indestructable" as named keyboard plugged in just for pressing the F12 key when needed. The make and model illuminated key board cound also be a factor since it pulls on the usb bus more then other keyboards but other non lit models have also seen the same need for PS/2.
The other new build built as a birthday gift saw an Asus board there as well as the old case also seeing an Asus board never saw this one! Besides that the lack of any MSI models seen with USB 3.0 ports as well as Sata III ports other then a Sata III only board lead to picking this out at the time. Next time MSI for sure!
You might want to look into a BIOS update for that issue as I thought Gigabyte had released one for that issue.
Although these are Intel board BIOS' you could look here .... Gigabyte Latest BIOS and ask stasio about one for your MB as he's usually the one posting the BIOS'.

This was something I simply wanted to mention as far as the GA-790XTA-UD4 model was concerned. As for any bios or other updates I go direct to the board or chipset manufacturer directly with the last seen in July still in beta.
The inability to use the F keys and requiring a PS/2 was the odd one alright but simply rushing out to flash a working board for something minor? Have to see how that goes sometime.
Other then that people have been making inquiries about the same model at ocing sites ironically for the exact same model cpu being the Phenom II X4 965 which I run here as well but generally keep thing stock. I was going to push things a little on the old case once this one was up but the bios did let go on that one.
Other then Asus having been in the top 3 brands I would tend to veer away from some models and look at Gigabyte or MSI despite what was seen with the F key problem here. Which model is exactly best for turning things up will still vary for each make and model however.
