Welcome to SevenForuns. When you get this error message, try opening device manager and see what if anything related to that is running.

If I haven't copied anything to or from my flash drive, I will usually just take it out anyways. Otherwise I will usually reboot my computer as that will also clear the flash drives cache. If the flash drive is not cleared, files copied/saved to the flash drive may become corrupted. For example, I spent several hour working on a powerpoint presentation and when I was done I saved, closed powerpoint and removed my flash drive without thinking. I was unable to open the powerpoint later so I had to startover.

    Welcome to SevenForums.

And the device is? Just to make sure we are guessing correctly.

Simply close all programs. Now does it still show the device as being in use?

What anti-virus software are you using?

A good article on this I liked here. There can be many more. Just google and take your pick.:)

I am too lazy to go through any rigmarole for this. I just allow the device to sit on my comp till I shut it down and then pull it out. :)
