To the original poster, what chipset do you have?

Right click on Computer, select properties, click on device manager, click om System devices, look for something like Intel(R) 9XX ... Or post a screenshot. I might be able to tell you what your computer is capable of.

Also how much RAM does your video card have?

@GENEO I am refering to standby ram i guess you didn't get that windows will always hold back some sort of ram some chipsets allow the usage or the idea of all ram is being used

Noone said about it being a boost it is there for when a demanding application ask for it and since you never heard of it let me show you since im not useing anything but just replying to this thread i have no usage at all pretty much and when i use something that needs that much ram to run it will be used out of the standby portion that is held back

If you never of heard of this it is obvious you don't know what is going on with windows

sorry but i just showed you and right there makes up all 8 gigs of my ram just saying

by the way my chipset supports 16 gigs so that isnt why

Then there is a setting wrong somewhere (bios, msconfig, wherever) because according to the specs for your motherboard,

BIOSTAR :: TA785GE 128M :: Specification

it supports up to 16 GB of ram, so if everything is configured properly you should have all 8 GB available.

Edit: And looking at that screen shot you posted you do have all 8 GB available, so I don't see where you're getting that there is 1.25 GB missing (or being held back as you put it).

Captain Boom boom?

Nope never heard of it. Can you give me a reference because I don't believe that is true. Depending on the OS and whether it is 32 bits or 64 bits, windows will reserve a certain amount of space for itself (e.g. by default 2GB for a 32 bit OS with 4GB memory). This space is then reserved for non-paged kernel, paged kernel, etc. But I never heard of no fudge space that windows allocates so would be very interested to know of such - can you give me a reference?

I think I know what is going on in windows pretty well, so educate me by showing me documentation about this.

BTW, what windows reports as usable RAM includes what is usable by users and the operating system The part that is unusable is ONLY that part used for memory mapping by devices like video cards.

I too would like to know why you think you're "missing" 1.25GB. Your snip shows all 8GB!

those i was useing as a example if you look into system informantion it shows how much ram you are actually using vs what is installed that is what im talking about technicly im not missing a thing it is the numbers that show im not using all 8 gigs thats my whole point not that i dont have it all installed it is showing it's not using it all
