Using Windows 7 and AUDIO DAW?

    Hi there.

I have a firewire device for audio and when I use the vista drivers (nothing else works), I thought it was working ok, suddenly, even when opening one (1) software instrument, like a virtual instrument in Acid or Garage band only this is Nuendo and a EWQL device, it stutters, like there is too much CPU overhead.

I can load a dozen or so in XP, not one (1) can be loaded in windows 7. Just thought I would ask to see if anyone ran across this and if they had a solution.

The device is a MACKIE 400F in case you're wondering.

    Thanks.:)

    Nice gear. :)

Open task manager while this is happening and look to see if it really is using 100% cpu or not. Is it?
Check the device manager and make sure it shows the midi driver is installed well for the Mackie.

It definitely seems like a driver issue that needs to be sorted.

Have you tried any other sequencers like Cubase or Sonar?

    Sonar re &

I have the Sonar Studio Sps660 Daw. I have no problem running the software install of Studio BUt when it comes time to attach the firewire external hardware/souncard it does not recognize the os. Have not found a work around for this issue as of yet. Posted the problem on these forums and Cakewalks several times and no go to date.
Just an update since you mentioned Sonar. I am looking @ a differant sound card (external only) so if anyone knows of a working or Certified Card even via usb, in Win 7 on pc let me know. Meanwhile good luck with your situation. Saddly, at this timw Sonar is not an option. Nor does q base seem to be from the digging I've done.

Same thinh with cubase, am trying the demo from Cakewalk now.

Will report on findings. Could have remembered at first, it worked well, Windows 7 that is, then I went back to the mac for a while and when I came back to the PC, it was like I had all these problems.

Also, I noticed that the OYNX control panel for the FIREWIRE device will go from 44.1K to 192K all by itself, playing the music too fast (sample rate) and that's without the OYNX control panel open. I then of course have to launch the control panel and reset it to 44.1. So am really wondering if the culprit is the OS or is it the steinberg family of software?

Reason seems to play fine, check that, rather, I remember it playing fine, haven't launched it since I started having problems.

Regarding the "nice gear" comment, I can tell you this, when you move from a $150 sound card and $100 mic to a better AUDIO interface and mic (RHODES NT2A), when you first hear it, you say to yourself, RADIO, it sounds more like a radio recording now, especially on the mic end.

But, be that as it may, I did a full length, feature film trailer for the US and International using just Acid and a MAUDIO 2496 sound card, so don't let anyone tell you gear is what makes the person, no way, in fact, I think the more choices we sometimes have means the less work we get done as we have too many choices sometimes.

    Installing Sonar now.
