Can anyone explain what this is? Over the years I've come to expect usb drivers from your chipset drivers (or is it a device?). I'll admit, I've never heard of a USB mouse driver . This updated popped up recently and I can't seem to get any information as to why I'm being asked to download this? Can anyone help?

All it means is that Windows Update has been 'updated' to include drivers for your mouse. I'd advise downloading it as it could include extra stability and compatibility for use with Windows 7.

You'll find a whole host of updates like this, from USB Input Devices to 802.11 wireless devices.

Windows 10 Education 64 bit

I used to avoid driver updates via windows updates on my XP PC's like the plague. It always seemed to cause problems. I have to say though that Microsoft seems to have got their act together as far as windows 7 goes. I've done numerous driver updates though windows update and have yet to have anything bad happen on my windows 7 PC's. The rollback driver option should bail you out anyway if it screws something up.

Thanks for the responses. At least I have some idea of what it is now. To me, the old method of downloading updates is better. IE: seeing a complete list of both recommended, critical, optional, etc updates from MS website. That layout was easier to read for me than this one.

Win 7 Home Premium 64bit

Unsure if I should start a new thread on this, but "Microsoft Hardware USB Mouse" recent installation of Intellipoint 8.1 software caused some bizarre behaviour on my machine when using a different mouse subsequently.

Applications were reacting as if I were slowly scrolling my wheel down. That is to say the vertical scroll bars were scrolling automatically; same with sliders when vscrolls weren't presented (on, for example, the Mouse control panel). This happened on browsers, java apps, Word, control panels.

Uninstalling Intellipoint software fixed the problem.
