    Recycled Ink Cartridges

    Another printer problem:

I have an HP Deskjet 4480 with recycled ink cartridges in which I never had problems printing from XP. When I bought another computer that had W7 and hooked up the same HP, it printed fine. However, I just replaced the old cartridges with new (recycled) ink cartridges, and I am getting an error. Could it be that they are just bad cartridges?

    Thanks - ACES

HP cartridges have electronic data strips that could be damaged and give bad data. Then again, it could easily be a bad cartridge. Since the recycled cartridges are fairly cheap, I would just try it and see how long it does last. If it doesn't last as it should, I would consider finding an alternative supplier of the cartridges.

I can't print to color at all, so seeing how long that cartridge will last isn't really an option. The black is printing fine so you are probably right; the color cartridge is probably bad. Do you know if the fine people over at 'Cartridge World' can determine if that electronic data strip is the problem?

    Thanks for the response.

The electronic strip tells the printer it is not a genuine HP cartridge, I had to go back to orig cartridges to get it to work correctly again. If you think it is just plugged up, heat a bit of water in a cup in microwave, about and inch and a half. When water is hot, dip bottom part of cartridge in and then wipe with paper towel, do several times then when dry, insert again in printer and try once more....if it won't work, replace with orig hp ink, they have you where they want you, in their till...

If the color cartidge has the weight sufficient to indicate that it is not empty, then it will need to be replaced anyway. It only needs a working cartridge, not necessarily a new HP replacement. The original vendor should be willing to replace it for you. If not, Google/eBay another.

Thanks all. I think we will take it to the vendor and see if they will replace it. For now, we are just prinitng to our other color printers.
