    New Ram chip and no boot up on pc


    hi i wanna upgrade my ram memory. my current ram is 2.75gb with 2gb chips one 512mb and one 256mb. i bought a 1024mb ult31664 and replaced the 512mb chip and after i turned it on it wouldn't boot up past the boot screen. i have a compaq SR1630NX running windows 7 ultimate 64bit. is my new ram chip messed up i also got it of ebay

    Hi James,

    1 way to check if the ram is bad is to remove ALL sticks then insert 1, boot the machine, if it works then switch off and try another stick. Also (and a silly question but...), is the ram the correct specification for your mainboard? If the timings (an other details) aren't exactly what your board is designed for then you will experience issues untill it's replaced with a correct part :)

    RAM should never be mixed and matched. Many prefer to buy all at once rather then piecemeal. I would remove the chip that you just installed and see if it works again.
    I think that it may be a mix and match problem.
