    Recommended PSU - Please Help

Hey guys. (Im not sure if i posted in the right place)

I had a 750w Winpower PSU in my pc for about 3 years. Then the other night my machine went off then let our a huge bang/spark and i got a smell of burning from my PSU. After looking online about winpower PSU's they are not recommended by most people. I'm looking for a new PSU but im not sure what i should get. Just wondering if anyone on here could help me find a decent PSU. I only have a £50 budget but theres so many to choose from.

    My specs are below.

Thanks guys any help would be much appreciated :)

Newegg.com - OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ700MXSP 700W ATX12V V2.2 / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply compatible with core i7

I'm not sure where you are?
Pricing you say 50 Pounds but location is showing you are in the Western Hemisphere.

As far as brand Corsair and OCZ are good. The one I posted above is on sale there. There are many others.
I'm using a Cooler Master. They are pricey. I got it with a combo so it was about half price or I was set to get a Corsair.
Newegg is a good place to check out what is available and pricing even if you have to order from somewhere else because of location.

This will work with your set up as far as wattage.

    Hope that helps .

Thanks for the reply Mike mate. The best one i could find was a 600w for £50 in the uk. It seems most decent branded ones are £70+ for 700w+, Wit the amount of fans plus the wc kit in my case i presume they would use a fair bit of power? Plus im somewhat confused on this amps malarky with the graphics cards lol. They have a powecool 750w PSU for pretty cheap but i dont fancy taking the risk of what happened the other night happening again with a cheap power supply. It was quite alarming.

I also just found this one. Not sure of the brand though. Never heard of them before.

    Cheers

At least your find is 80+ rated. But I would not buy anything from Amazon. My preferred PSU make is Antec. But I do not know about prices in the UK. In Germany it is about €110 for a 650W - and that is a lot compared to the Newegg price at $100.

    Never heard of it.

I posted for some help and advice from fellow UK denizens with suggestions where and what to buy.
Hopefully we will get some input.

    So hang in there.

    You're not the only one,

Ever heard of Evo Labs PSUs? - Overclock.net - Overclocking.net

Looks like it could be another of those off-name PSU's I see on most sites in the UK. We have our fair share of them on this side of the pond, but it seems that some of the e-tailers/retailers in the UK take it to extremes.

For UK prices have a look at Ebay

Only go for those that are UK based stores, offer a buy it now option for new equipment, and have a high user rating,

You may well find that you can approach US prices for the branded items you are looking for

First thing I do if I was you is use a program to determine the wattage of the psu that is recommends for you computer. If it recommends a 700w psu get a 750 or 800 I personal never get the a psu that will just cover what I have in my PC. I all ways give my self some room to expand. I just built a new pc and put one gtx470 in it at this time but, I bought a psu that will allow me to have two gtx470 in it running in sli. So when I do plan to upgrade my video card I will not have to buy another PSU
I also go for a modular psu that way you can have a very clean looking cabling in your PC to help with air flow

Thanks for the replys guys much appreciated. After looking some more i have found a couple that im intrested in.

Thermaltake TR2 RX 550W Modular PSU | Ebuyer.com - I like the modular PSU's but i'm on a tight budget, this is the cheapest branded one i've seen.

OCZ Stealth Xstream II 600W PSU - 3x SATA 2x PCI-E | Ebuyer.com - Higher watts and mentioned it has the power of a 700w PSU.

Corsair Builder Series 600 Watt Atx Ps/2 Power Supply | Ebuyer.com - I like this one but unsure about the single 12v rail.

My only worry is that i have 3 HDD's inside the machine now 2x SATA & 1x IDE, plus 7x 120mm TT case fans along with the TT bigwater. Will these PSU's cope with this plus the mobo, cpu & gpu?

    Decisions decisions lol.
