Acer Netbook 521 -- FLIES with 2GB RAM and W7 PRO

    Hi all
I got one of those small netbooks for travelling - Acer ONE LO5021 with the faster AMD chip.

The spec says max 1GB RAM DDR3. Anyway I removed the 1 GB ram and replaced it with a 2GB RAM module -- these are cheap enough now. It works fine and the system really flies for what I need on the move -- even Photoshop CS5 is passable.

You might just find the 1GB RAM a bit limiing but you CAN replace these with a 2GB RAM module (around 40 USD - well worth it).

If you have one of these small ultra thin / light netbooks IMO it's worth replacing the 1GB memory with a 2GB RAM module. 9You can also put in a faster bigger HDD drive too -- easily accessible BTW - just remove 7 screws on the back panel, and the HDD drive and memory are EASILY acessible -- in fact EASIER than on my primary (Heavy) laptop.

With 2GB RAM you can also run a Virtual Machine or XP mode on the netbook too giving it significant more useability.

I'd also get rid of the W7 starter and replace it with something like W7 Pro or at leasy Home Premium.

    Cheers

Very nice Jimbo, i've just looked at the reviews, yours and the 721 are very high scorers

I've been thinking of getting a netbook for when I start my business and you may have given me something to save up for

    Hmmm, very interesting...

The graphics core of the HD 4225 stems from the Mobility Radeon HD 3400 series and is therefore DirectX 10.1 capable. Because of the missing graphics memory, the performance of the card is a bit lower than of the HD 34x0. Theroretically, dedicated memory chips can be directly added to the chip, making it a dedicated graphics card. Because of pricing it is unclear if any manufacturer will add memory to the chip.
