sorry if this is inappropriate here but do any of you sidewinders know if there's usb-adapter options for use on USB-only laptops?

just found the power cable for this so I can use it for MIDI control

I already killed a usb mouse recently so was thinking about trying this but don't know if some functionality will be lost/impaired... then read this and wondered if I can even use the device on my x64 win7 xps...

5 Years Later and this is still a helpful thread. Just wanted to make an update so people don't avoid this fix. What "victorxx" recommended above does STILL work. So don't discount this useful piece of advice.

Sorry to revive the old thread, but all other old threads all over the internet are locked and this thread is one of the first results in google. So to help others I decided to post here. The issue with this keyboards volume on Windows 10 is driver related. It just sometimes goes crazy and keeps turning the volume up or down. Only plug-unplug or reset PC works. So I got tired of crawling under the PC and wearing out the USB plug. So here is the solution:

Get yourself a Yepkit Ykush, the cheapest software controllable switchable USB hub board (Mine shipped in one day to EU). They even have 3D-printable case files for it, since it comes as a bare board, without case.

Then write a simple batch file and put it in the same folder as the software you downloaded from their website below the product:
    ykushcmd.exe -d 1
    ykushcmd.exe -u 1

Then assign a macro key to it in Windows Keyboard and Mouse Center. I used Macro key S7, so I have to switch to mode 2 below, it is where I hold the macros that shouldn't be accidentally tripped. after replugging the macro settings for the left row will be in bank 1 automatically so it also prevents resetting it twice.

Now whenever the volume goes crazy just reset it by pressing that macro key, it will unplug and then plug your keyboard immediately in. Should be painless. And don't do the WD40 volume knob fix, since the potentiometer should be dry and clean inside. The issue is the driver, not the knob. And now we can enjoy that excellent keyboard for even longer. There is no other keyboard that has such functionality.
