WD Elements 640GB External Drive

I have a more than slightly annoying issue with this thing...

Whenever it's been idling for a while, say 20 mins or so, it's starts buzzing like its searching the drive or writing files and it won't stop until I actually open it up in windows explorer and open a folder with files in it. If it's just a window with folders in it, the buzzing keeps on going!

I'm guessing that there's a Windows process which rapes the drive for no reason while idling.

Any ideas as to what to look out for in the task manager process list?

Is this a new install? Windows could be indexing or doing some other maintenance. Or it's possible your drive is going bad if this isn't isolated to windows 7.

I'd say leave your pc on for a day or so and see if it finishes whatever it's doing.
