What brand of ssd is it? Again, WEI is a pretty crappy benchmark.

You can also switch from ide to ahci on the fly (i.e. without re-installing windows) via a small registry tweak.

Right mode, correct alignment should get you 7.7

Its reporting that the 100mb unassigned partion is offset at 1024kb and the primary partition is offset at 101kb.

which partition should be marked as active?

Usually it is the 100MB partition that contains the MBR - thus this is the "active" one. But you never know. In one of my installations the MBR ended up on the first data partiton of the HDD which happened to be on Port0 - go figure.
Best is to check what's on the 100MB partition - or to experiment. The Partition Wizard live CD is a good tool for experimenting. Then you can still change things around when your system does not boot.

The mobo is unlikely. If it works, there should not be a problem. And if it does not work, you would know it.

If I were you, I would not worry about the WEI. That is some very unreliable measurement anyhow. It is better to go by the data of the measurement programs - e.g. HD Tune. And what really counts at the end is whether you like the performance you are getting.

For the purposes we are using the SSDs these days (meaning for the OS), it is really only the access time that counts. The data transfer rates are of minor importance since the OS does not transfer masses of data.
