just when you thought it couldn't get better...

    something else comes along.

The OCZ IBIS solid-state drive is a ground-breaking product on two levels - the storage level and interfacing level. Unsatisfied with current storage interface options, OCZ developed High Speed DataLink or HSDL, to eliminate the existing I/O bottle necks and take SSDtechnology to new heights. As the first SSD to make use of the proprietary HSDL interface, the IBIS is capable of delivering incredible, trailblazing performance (740MBps read/writespeeds and upto 120,000 randomwrite IOPS). IBIS SSDs willbe available in a complete spectrum of capacities ranging from 100GB to 960GB. Each IBIS comes in a durable aluminum 3.5inch housing and is bundled with a singleport HSDL adapter card.

Stay tuned Ladies and Gentlemen the world of consumer computer storage is about to get very fast. Trickle down will make technologies only affordable to all but the uber rich will soon become mainstream. PCI-e 3.0, Sata III will allow speeds that we could only dream about just months back. Along with this will come graphic speed increases and new mobo topographies. Otherwise just another day in the world of the PC computer....you got to love this !

panais, The write speed will be good but it will be the way the computer functions when all the OS and Apps are on it and you first boot and want to pull up your programs. Try opening Photoshop for giggles and be amazed ! Snappy just doesn't do it justice.

    panais,

Here are a couple of quick YouTube video clips I put together when I got my 80GB Intel X25-M G2.

In this first video, I boot the computer from a power button press. Notice how long post takes, versus getting to the logon screen. Then, notice from logon screen to desktop is nearly instant from the time I press enter. You will hear a significant click at 1:01 as I press enter. Notice my background, icons, and everything is simply "there".

In this second video, I launch "Return to Castle Wolfenstein". At the start, it does a cd check...which "REALLY" slows the process down. But once that completes, you will see that the machine just blows through the load and gets me back into the game super fast. Then, it exits out of the game crazy fast as well. Note, I rebooted right before I ran this video...none of this is preloaded into RAM or anything else.

    wow - it's a strange experience to hear a long-time poster's voice!

    it's a pity there isn't a before and after comparison - maybe in a split-screen video.

really looking forward to getting my first ssd - hopefully next week!

I've never had games load anywhere near this fast, not even with RAID 0 raptor configurations. My applications and desktop are just extremely quick...not to mention scans like malwarebytes take less than 1 minute on my box now.

Perhaps it's not worth it to all, but compared to CPU upgrades and RAM upgrades...this was the biggest change in performance that I have seen in a long time.
