    can't read disk

My Win 7 Ultimate Toshiba notebook asks me if I want to format a blank CD-R when I put a blank in the DVD drive. Anyone know why? Same with DVD-R blanks. Yes, I only use quality media. Please help.

I believe you need to format them to be able to write to them. Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

You only need to format CD-RW prior to use as you can re-write to them ie. they need a directory structure. Some burner / backup programs can cause similar symptoms, try disabling / unistalling any and see if it makes a difference

been there, done that! Does anyone know why Windows 7 Ultimate(yeah, right) "can't read the disc in drive D:"? and wants me to format a blank CD-R? I have repeatedly uninstalled and re-installed the drive and drivers. It has the latest firmware. Any software suggestions? I can't be the only person having this problem. Help!
