USB Device Not Recognized

Perhaps you need to mess with the BIOS a little, but being careful to do so. Set the time to search for Devices (or hard disks) longer if you have that setting, and try what oneextraid said. Read any instructions that came with the external drive and webcam. Most likely the setting to correct this will be found in your BIOS menu

I also reset my CMOS / BIOS just now and my camera was recognized, but failed to install. Could something be wrong with my motherboard then? Or is it windows acting up? I attached a Pic. Oh, and it doesn't work, of course.

I tried another port, and it recognized the device's name, then changed it to USB audio device, video device, input device, and failed one of the items (Pic #3). My VIDEO began to work though!

I'm sorry for this extremely long post, I just want to get this problem over with. Would a picture of my motherboard help maybe? It looks like something was customized possibly (this was a pre-owned computer)

Update 4: I just tried plugging it in and out a few times to one of the ports and it works now! Partially though, it's listed as usb audio device and usb video device... not the name of the cam. Motherboard problem or driver problem?

Oh no, that is only because you reset your motherboard. Those devices are litterally the actual devices. Your audio and webcam failed, it looks like. Now it becomes a little more clear. So I guess you don't have the option to reinstall? If it was previously owned, any settings he had are probably still set up?

If so, try this: Type services in the start menu and click it. Then go to this website: Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Service Configurations by Black Viper and set them side by side (you will have to scroll down on the website). Now there are extreme configurations but perhaps you should stick with looking up the type of OS you have (Windows 7 home, pro, or ultimate) under defaults and going through your own services to see if they match up. For example, the first service is ActiveX Installer (AxInstSV). Default Professional (These are all windows 7) lists the service as manual. Look at your service under startup type and make sure it is also manual. if not, right click and go to properties. On the menu, go to startup type and change it to manual. Do this with every different service (following their own particular startup type). This may take a while, as there are numerous services, but don't loose heart.

If you have reset your BIOS, it SHOULD be fine. I don't think there is any webcam device that shouldn't be recognized by windows even without the driver, but I'm not entirely sure what the issue is.

It shouldn't have anything to do with your Graphics card. It can be that your USB2 enhanced controllers are not installed or windows installed the wrong one? Look up your motherboard's website for the one that goes with your board

Also check for your audio driver on that same website. it should list your board with every device you need. You may already have some installed. go here: Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers and here: Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Device Manager and look to see if there are any yellow exclaimation signs such as this picture has:

I know you said you have the latest for your motherboard, but from looking at past posts, it really looks like you're missing one

Carefully look up any drivers you may be missing, from audio to USB controlers (Motherboard manufacturer's website) and Webcam (webcam's manufacturer's website).

Still nothing, right click on the device with the yellow exclaimation and click update driver

Sorry, I seem to have led you in circles. I need to pay more attention, there were like 4 people with similar problems and I think I got mixed up a little. I'll be more on the ball next time o.0

Your problem is indeed very peculiar. I would say go ahead and update as much as you can, because the more you update, the more compatable Windows 7 is with your devices, hardware, and software. I've heard of someone setting a device to be compatable with an earlier Operating system like XP, were your devices made for an earlier OS? Perhaps you can search online for a "how to" way to do that.

But that is assuming the problem lies with the devices and not the computer. You said the keyboard and mouse work, just the ext. HD and your webcam don't. And perhaps your audio driver as well, from one of the screen shots. Have you tried other USB devices, perhaps another webcam to see if you are 100% sure it is the computer? I'm afraid I am running out of ideas. Let me know if any of these works for you
