I have tried removing 1 set of the same out ( the dell ones) and left the 2gb of zeppalin in the slot. Still no luck
System of elimination would suggest you try only the dell modules also. I'd suggest restoring BIOS to defaults, and also before you flash to restore board to defaults as well (no OC'n, overvolts, etc).

Have you tried booting into any other OS apart form 7.

tinyXP boot disk or ubuntu for exapmle, even maybe safe mode on 7.

Just a thought as you can boot your PC. It does power on, and sustains the power without switching off the machine.

Is there any indication in the POST that the hardware is failing.

You have checked the compatability with GIGABYTE and unless this is a socket AM2+ board then it should work.

I dont think you have mentioned if this board is an AM2+ or AM3 because this CPU won't work on a AM2+ mobo.

Im all out of suggestions, my step would be to declare the CPU a dud.

I will give you the link to your mobo again just of interest. As you can see the first table is for the AM2+ and the second table is for the AM3.

    hope this helps.

Are you sure about that? AM3 CPU's are more than capable of running on an AM2+ board (some AM2 as well if there has been a bios update for them). Don't forget that AM3 CPU's have dual memory controllers in them so that they an work with either DDR2 or DDR3. It is AM2+ and AM2 that cannot work on AM3 (P.S. you also contradict yourself by posting a link to his motherboard that clearly shows that the board will run both AM2+ and AM3 CPU's).

As for that particular CPU work on an AM2+ board, check my specs. Exact same CPU running quite happily on an AM2+ motherboard (and I could drop in a x6 if so desired).

cogman double check the CPU for any bent or missing pins. It could just be that you got a defective CPU, rare but it does happen. Only way to find that out is to test it in another motherboard.
