    Lag,Crash Dump,CHKDSK,HELP??

a week ago my pc was getting be to be very laggy and slow and would freeze a lot but when i ran a scan with avg no virus or spyware was detected. my pc kept running slow so i decided to do a system restore to when it wasn't laggy it fixed it for a while but then then started again, soon i started to get a blue screen that would say crash dump . then my pc would schedule a disk check for me i would let it finish then restart and it would have no affect i reinstalled windows but it is still doing it it keeps telling me to schedule a CHKDSK so i go to my HDD go to properties, tools, error checking an schedule a CHKDSK but isnt helping. i am no good with pc hardware and want to know what to do does this mean is my HDD bad? do i need to get a new one? sorry for the wall of text

We need information. the dmp file created would help if you can get to it

If you wish to have others assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. The procedure:

    * Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
    * Zip up the copy.
    * Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
    * Briefly describe the problem history and circumstances in the same post. Somebody will attend to your query as soon as possible.

Your dumps are all the same error code, 51, REGISTRY_ERROR. Something has gone wrong with your registry. Are you using a registry cleaner? Have you modified the registry yourself? Are you using a tuneup utility of any kind?

Download and install Malwarebytes (free). Update it and run a scan of your systems. Let us know what it finds.

Uninstall AVG using this removal tool:Tool (32bit). If you have AVG Identity Protection installed, remove it with this tool: Tool. Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials. AVG is know to cause slowdowns and BSOD's on some Win 7 systems.

    Please run Check Disk.
Run CHKDSK /R /F from an elevated (Run as adminstrator) Command Prompt. Please do this for each hard drive on your system.
When it tells you it can't do it right now - and asks you if you'd like to do it at the next reboot - answer Y (for Yes) and press Enter. Then reboot and let the test run. It may take a while for it to run, but keep an occasional eye on it to see if it generates any errors. See "CHKDSK LogFile" below in order to check the results of the test.

    Elevated Command Prompt:
Go to Start and type in "cmd.exe" (without the quotes)
At the top of the Search Box, right click on Cmd.exe and select "Run as administrator"

    CHKDSK LogFile:
Go to Start and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Expand the Windows logs heading, then select the Application log file entry.
Double click on the Source column header.
Scroll down the list until you find the Chkdsk entry (wininit for Windows 7).

Copy/paste the results into your next post.

    REGISTRY_ERROR (51)
Something has gone badly wrong with the registry. If a kernel debugger
is available, get a stack trace. It can also indicate that the registry got
an I/O error while trying to read one of its files, so it can be caused by
    hardware problems or filesystem corruption.
It may occur due to a failure in a refresh operation, which is used only
in by the security system, and then only when resource limits are encountered.

Do NOT use a registry cleaner. Did you make a back up of the registry before you ran JV Power Tools? If so, you need to restore the registry using that backup. Most registry cleaners make a backup of the registry before making changes. Open JV Power Tools and see if you have a registry restore option. If you have a restore point before you ran the tool, try that.

Here is my sermon on registry cleaners.
Windows is a closed source system. Developers of registry cleaners do not have the core code of Win 7 and are not working on definitive information, but rather they are going on past knowledge and experience. Automatic cleaners will usually have to do some guesswork.

Modifying registry keys incorrectly can cause Windows instability, or make Windows unbootable. No registry cleaner is completely safe and the potential is ever present to cause more problems than they claim to fix.

My advice for the average computer user is DO NOT use a registry cleaner. If you do not have knowledge of the registry, then you are far better off leaving it alone, and definitely not placing blind trust in a program to do the job for you.

Registry cleaners cannot distinguish between good and bad. If you run a registry cleaner, it will delete all those keys which are obsolete and sitting idle; but in reality, those keys may well be needed by some programs or windows at a later time.

Registry defragger programs are a myth, too. They might trim the registry size by 8-12MB; but will not improve operating system performance. In fact, your programs’ performance will decrease.

Win 7 does not need a registry cleaner. Forget all the "wisdom" you learned about XP. Win 7 is not XP and does not manage the registry the same as XP.

Win 7 is much more efficient at managing the registry than previous Windows versions. If you are very knowledgeable of the registry, you can use Ccleaner to delete keys left over when uninstalling programs. However, these few keys will not make 1 millisecond's difference in performance. If you run Ccleaner or any other registry cleaner and do not know precisely what you are doing, you will have problems down the road. There are no gains to be had from using a registry cleaner and the risk is great.

    Are registry cleaners necessary?

    Back up the registry

Why I don’t use registry cleaners

If you don't have a backup of the registry and don't have a restore point prior to running the cleaner, you may well be faced with a reinstall of Windows.

You have an out of date driver than can create problems. Update this driver through the link provided and see if it helps your system.

    Update this driver, also.

Carl has asked me to look over the files
Usually the files do not give the same information. It is usually up to the analyst to read the clues and then decide on the right course of action.
Your reports did not do that; they all point to registry.
Base upon your reports you have a problem with the registry and I agree with Carl, that the cleaner is the cause. Once we get things up and running stop using the cleaners. I am going to give you a maintenance list that will help you in the future.

    But now back to today
To the best of my knowledge there are only several ways to correct this problem
One with a backed up registry. You can use the back up to restore
You can try a repair install
You can try system restore from before the problem
You can try a system image, which is a back up of the HD. If you have one old enough
    YOu can reinstall.

I do not recall if Carl suggested any of these remedies, but either Carl or myself will be glad to explain what the suggestions involve, if you have any questions

The best remedy is the system restore if you have a point that is old enough.

    To maintain your computer

10 Tips on How to Properly Maintain Your Computer

Steps that I did not notice on the guide include:

Running a scan disc before doing a defrag

Using Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes.

Making System Restore points, at least once a week

Makaing a system Image once a month (varies by user)

Not relying on your A/V common sense, should prevail. You know of many sites can cause a problem.

Do not use any reg cleaning or optimizing software.

Download and use Ccleaner. about once every two months
Piriform - Download CCleaner, Defraggler, Recuva, Speccy - Millions of users worldwide!

If you follow these instructions, you will be trouble free for a long time to come.

Be sure to back up your hard drive about once a month (varies by user) and to keeep system restore points up to date.
