The original battery is usually installed by the motherboard manufacturer when the board is tested, and this can be quite a period of time between then and when the board is actually used in a system.

The life of a mobo battery can never be really determined as to how long it will last , I still have a PC running a 10 year old battery , I had to change the battery on my prefered PC recently that lasted only 2 years :)

As a late resort if you think the bios chip is bad and you can't get a replacement board you can purchase a new bios chip with whatever bios version you want pre-installed from this guy. :: BIOSMAN :: BIOS Updates : BIOS chips : BIOS recovery : AWARD : PHOENIX : AMI : BIOS replacement : Thumb Drives : Minoru 3D Webcam
I've used him before when I used to buy bad boards that had been flashed imporerly.
It may take a couple of days to get an email back from him but the service is rather quick after that.
    Fabe

I keep my fingers crossed when I take my watches in for new batteries as the last three sets all installed by different jewelers lasts a fraction of what the originals did.......wtf. I makes me think that theres a good business in selling old batteries. The good news are the mobo battery couldn't be easier to change and will last years !

The trick is pushing the clip out of the way and the battery will pop up just a little, too much pressure is needed to just pop the battery out from the bottom.
