DVD Drive can read CD but not DVD

    DVD Drive can read CD but not DVD


    Hi all. Our old PC suddenly won't turn on after using it last day so we had a computer technician check it for us and he assumed that its motherboard is busted / defective. So he replaced it with a new one. The new mobo is an Asus P5KPL-AM EPU motherboard. But that is not the problem. The problem is about its DVD drive --- the DVD Drive can read CDs but not DVDs. That drive used to work fine before. I could even burn DVD games from there before. What seems to be the problem here?

    The DVD Drive is an LG HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22NP20. Could the problem be hardware or software (driver) related?

    when that happened to me it meant the drive was dead.

    agreed - happened to me and it turned out the dvd reading mechanism was bust - apparently there are 2 mechanisms in a drive, 1 for cd and 1 for dvd iirc

    iirc (again :)) the drive I had was made by LG too

So my problem is this: My DVD drive simply refuses to read DVDs. CDs work fine and for some reason the DVD with W7 is also read by W7 itself.
