    Memory Stick vs Modem

Hi!! I am new to 7Forum and very happy to have joined...

I have a weird problem - when my modem is connected and internet running, I cannot connect a Flash drive/ Memory stick to a USB - Windows then disconnects my modem?? Has anyone out there had anything similar ? Any views on this ?

Sorry boss.. It is a HUAWEI K3565 USB STICK and I am using local service provider VODACOM SOUTH AFRICA on HSDPA AND 3G connection. Typical speeds are around 1-3M/b per sec. Software also supplied by service provider, version 9.3.3.10523 huawei - developed by Vodafone

    I hope this is ok?

    USB 2.0?
You may be saturating the USB bandwidth of your motherboard.

That is certainly one option I DID not CONSIDER... is there a way I can check what the bandwidth is and what I am using ?? Board is USB 3 but currently running / setup for USB 2.0/1.1

I have yet to own a board with USB 3.0 so I can't be certain, but there should be a jumper header somewhere on the board to switch it to USB 2.0. If not there, then perhaps in the BIOS? I'm only guessing though, since I have no current experience with USB 3.0. Hope this helps some.

Have you checked for hardware compatability, or forced hardware/IRQ sharing? It sounds like a compatability issue.

Ok - board definitely set up as USB 2.0 - this may sound really dumb, but how would I go about checking for hardware compatibility? I may just add that running on my P4 p4m900 Celeron in XP Pro this did not happen.... only since going Windows 7, it seems, cuz it also happens on my ASROCK G41C-VS (usb 2.0) board....(also running 7)

Problem solved.. for some reason, the modem was also opening a drive, in this case k: as a removable drive.. do not ask me why? I disabled this in windows, now I can plug rem drives in and out like audio jacks and all works, thak you for trying.

Can an admin. person pls also tell me how I mark a post/thread (like this one) as solved??
