I think Partition Wizard could solve the problem. Given the data is replaceable it should easy to get the drive operational and a good chance of recovering what's on there. There are no guarantees. With PW steps are
- Delete partition (produces an unallocated partition)
- Partition Recover Wizard
- Set Partition as primary
- Check file system (Check & fix detected errors option).
You need to "Apply" these operations in PW. I like to Apply each step separately. I tried this on one of my working ext HDD partitions.
If the above failed the next step for me would be a clean followed by a full format.
It is useful for OPs to post back their results (good and bad). It helps everyone including those giving their free time providing suggestions.
