I think this sums it up nicely : from what I have read, the benefits from RAID'ing SSD's are negligible, especially from an OS standpoint given the majority of IO is read.
On mechnical platters, its a different story depending on your needs (I use RAID0 on mechanical drives for a very specific bit of work where the write activity is extremely high, and the benefit of RAID has been demonstrated to offset the risk).
