If it worked before it ought to work now. You might need to reinstall Windows (might, but I'd try it first), and might have to do the robocall thing with Microsoft for (re)Activation.

I am not sure why this went wrong. As long as you had the right computer model and MB this should have gone fine. I have never had a bad bios flash in my 10+ years of IT work. You did everything right from what I can tell.

If you can't get the BIOS recovered you will need to buy a replacement BIOS chip which has a good BIOS on it. From what I saw snooping around looking for your board it may not be worth it. Google "Bad BIOS flash" and check out the prices from some of the companies offering that service.

The BIOS is located on a chip on the motherboard. Getting in your old car does not magically suck the dents out of the new one that just got wrecked.

Judging by some of your comments, I think you might be a little uncertain as to what the BIOS is and what it can do for you. Back in the early days of computing you used to have to boot from a floppy disk every time you wanted to start the computer and then type in commands to get the main operating system running. Some smart person got the idea of taking the info on the boot disk and putting it on a chip so you didn't have to fiddle with the boot disk every time. The BIOS is basically a miniature operating system on a chip.

It's not much of an operating system, though. While it is very important, which you just found out the hard way, what it does is very simple and limited. It does a quick memory check, looks to see what hardware is available and what that hardware is capable of, and allows some basic control over the hardware settings. It passes that information along to the main operating system and then gets out of the way. Unless you have something that is not working right solely because of a problem in the BIOS you are better off leaving it alone.

We've probably all had a bad flash happen. Here's hoping your luck is better down the road.

Following fron the excellent info you have received from profdlp youcould always buy a new bios chip pre-programmed with the latest bios version for very little money here is a link to a UK seller bios-repair.co.uk | Preflashed Asus BIOS Chips, Asus BIOS Reference but if you do an internet search you could find one closer to home

just got a replacement being shipped today. i'm just going to leave the bios as it is whenit comes. the reason i wanted to update the bios is that my OEM mobo was 5.23 lastes bios and the replacement was 5.03 so i just want it to get it back as to how it was when i had my oem mobo.
