It means that in order to get those ram speeds you'll need to set them up an a little OC in the bios but this is what makes the high end Asus mobo so unique. it's the simple way they've helped with a very complex process without losing any flexibility in the process.

It used to be the RoG boards had higher-end Intel and Realtek or Marvell on the other boards.
However, with the P67s, all ASUS MOBOs now have the better Intel LAN.
So that part is the same.

I agree, and the Extreme board is really sweet. Don't get me wrong.
I'm just saying, that it might be more board than most really want or need, and may be something worth considering in terms of budget etc.

I literally just finished putting together a Sandy Bridge machine (see my specs). My first Intel based machine since the original Pentium! So far I’m quite pleased!
The Sabertooth was one of the boards that was on my list. So was the WS Revolution and the Deluxe. I even entertained the thought of the Maximus IV Extreme but felt that I would be paying for features I wouldn’t use (it is a wicked board though!!). I decided on the Deluxe; in the end it just fit my needs more than the others. But I think you can’t go wrong with any of the top tier P67 boards from Asus
Write down what you want out of a board and try to foresee any future add ons. Perhaps you may add another video card in the future. Or maybe a separate sound card or a card based SSD. Draw the slot layout in excel and highlight where your video card(s) or other cards will fit into. This will give you a visual of how everything will be pieced together. Example: Another reason why I scratch the Maximus off my list is that it only has 1 PCIe 1x slot and that would be covered by a Dual Slot video card. So there would be nowhere for me to plug in my separate sound card (my sound card will only work in a 1x slot!).
And as others have said. Budget for a SSD drive for your OS. It will be the best upgrade you ever performed!!!!!!

All of the Intel H67 and P67 motherboard chips sold to date have a hardware flaw that can lead to early failure of the 3Gb/s SATA controller. (Intel claims a 5% failure rate in 3 years.) The two 6Gb/s ports are not affected. The "Sandy Bridge" CPUs themselves are OK.
You may have trouble buying a motherboard, even if you decide you want one. Some vendors (like Newegg) have pulled them from the market, and are offering extended replacement warranties for ones they've already sold. I don't know when the replacements will be available, but I'd guess early April:

I decided to proceed with a P8P67 Pro build, rather than wait.
I'm struggling to figure out why you are hung up on triple channel. it isn't really any faster than dual channel. Believe factual numbers, not marketing hype.
That all being said, I would wait until April to buy. It gives you more time to focus on what's important, rather than tearing your hair out over CAS latency, channels, etc. Then the fixed P67 chipsets will be available, and you can enjoy the build. You will have a very hard time buying a P67 motherboard right now, so I'd wait anyway.
I just finished my Sandy Bridge build 2 weeks ago. I don't regret the decision one bit, and I'm using the two unaffected SATA ports, so I'm not worried about an issue. In April, I'll get a free replacement from the store I bought the parts from, MicroCenter, and I'll be back up and running a few hours later.
