    Recognition and access to USB external

    I have a 160 GB that I used in past for Data on my old HP. However in Ubuntu on plug in I immediately see the icon pop up on desk to. but denied permission. (This only for your info as I only want to use on win 7.
    There when I plug it in I hear audible click, but went to my computer but nothing there. Can someone shed some light on this.
    Thank you
    Allen

    My guess would be that your PC USB port is not supplying enough power to the external drive. (I'm assuming that this is a USB powered drive and does not have an external power supply.)

    Access denied will be remedied by adding the "Everyone" group to the security tab access list.
    Add the "Everyone" group with modify or full permission and your unbunto will see it

    USB external

    Brady;
    Thanks for speedy reply, however I only mentioned Ubuntu in hopes that it would give you a clear picture. What I really want is access to windows with the USB.I hear the audible click when I plug in but cannot find it on my computer. The 1 GB stick is there.
    You probably did not follow "where to I go from here" But even after partitioning and adding ubuntu I cannot do it wireless and not about to go back to wired devices. Please tell me how to take control of this USB external in windows and again thanks
