    Problem USB1 and USB2

Attachment "Layout" shows how my USB ports are used.
Attachments "A" and "B" show the message I get when I plug in an external drive.

So my external drives are connected to USB1 ports? Read/Write tests seem to verify this.

But the message doesn't seem to relate in any way to the way devices are actually plugged in.

Obviously I want the FlashDrive and the external drives on USB2. The keyboard, mouse, scanner and iBurst Terminal can be USB1 - my internet is 1MB/s.

Any way I can work out what is actually going on?

As you probably know, USB2.0 is backwards compatible with USB1.1 and USB1.0. I might be wrong here, but some hubs will only connect at the speed of the slowest device connected to them - in other words, if a USB1.1 device is connected then all devices will run at that speed regardless of the fact that they are USB2.0 capable. Try connecting the external drives and the flash drive to one hub and the scanner and iBurst terminal to the other. Better still, if you have the sockets available try to avoid using hubs altogether.

Too many devices to get away without a hub. But plugging the external drives directly into individual ports, and using a hub for other devices solved the problem.

    Thanks.
