    Internal smart card reader

    Hello!
Im having problems with my smard card reader. If I insert a SD card into it. It asks me to format it, but its already formatted and works fine in another reader. Reader reads another type of cards well, only SD cards aint working. And im using SD not SDHC, so that cant be the problem.
    Thanks in advance

I have had nothing but problems with internal card readers...my last one caused my front usb ports to be non-functional so I had to remove it.

Back to your question, what file system is the card formatted in (NTFS, FAT, etc.)? Also, and I hope you don't take offense to this, but does your card reader require you to insert the card upside down? I only ask, because I had a friend who thought his card reader was bad, but he was inserting the card the wrong way.

Card filesystem is FAT. The card cant be inserted another way. When I click format it reads card size and filesystem, but when I click format it says the card be formated. Also sometimes when I insert the card, reader seems to shut down. When I reinsert it starts again, but still asks me to format.

How big is the card and is it partitioned?

The problem is not about the card. I have tried 512mb, 2gb and 4gb. Always same problem.

Has the reader ever worked? I know sometimes I'll use a pencial eraser to clean the contacts of my SD card.

Maybe it's time to buy a new reader?

If you ask a question it helps if you provide all relevant information up front.
