Windows 7: Computer Shutting down and turning on.

Thanks forr your further replies

I have ccontacted the supplier of the motherboard and they have agreed to take this back and test and will replace it of they find it to be
faulty I can not think of anythig else that could cause this other than a
power problem on the motherboard.

I am going to try and ask them to replace ot with another
make of board so hopefully this wont happen again.

Just a shot in the dark, but could it be a weak surge protecter, if you ruled that out then my thought is a short in the wireing between the motherboard and the on/off switch.

Thanks for your further replies,

I fully checked the computer for any infection and nothing has showed up.

I have also tried plugging the computer direct into a wall socket with no surge protector and the problem is still the same.

I have also checked the power on switch and the wiring and all looks ok.

I'll keep this thread update with how things progress.

Thanks again for your help

Power off computer and unplug your lan cable to see if it restarts with out it while siting , or go into bios and make sure start on lan is not enabled. In order for a system to start it needs a command to do so , it can be a hot key , mouse lan ect so check to be sure that is not causing the random starts

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Just a note to the 0-OFF position. My PSU will turn ON no matter where the switch is - I think it's more like a software switch. If the computer is running and the power goes off, the switch becomes OFF automatically - I'll need to switch it the other way to power up again.

@The OP - Since you did try 2 different PSUs and nothing helped, I really think the problem lies within your motherboard and the front power button. I've seen cases before where this little thing can cause nightmares - and really screw up the motherboard and the psu over time.

Good luck.

Thanks for your reply.

If the issue was with the front power button on the case would this not cause this to happen every time the computer is used? Its hard to find the exact cause because its intermittent.

Anyway I have an RMA setup now for the motherboard and the company has also offered to arrange to collect the board as well.

I had this problem before,
Did you here beeps when you started your computer?
if a normal computer should beeps 1 or 2.
if your computer beeps more. You should consider to service your heatsink.
If this wont work, try changing your Ram.Lastly if you have confirm that your Ram is not the problem,
Make sure your ATX cable is okay. And when formatting, please delete all the partitions.and make a new clean install.

Thanks for your response,

The computer only does 1 beep at start up. I have checked the CPU heat sink and reapplied thermal paste. I have rebuilt the computer and reinstalled windows.
