New DELL PC, USB Ext 1TB HD not recognized

    USB Drive is WD10EVDS, 1TB in a dual StarTech.com enclosure/toaster.

PC is a DELL XPS 8100.

From what I've been able to tell (initial hardware screen displays 1 sec then moves on, so not enough time to read):

    American MegaTrends, V02.67
    BIOS A03 dated 12/9/2009

Internal Drives are 1TBx2 Raid 1, Mirrored

Using F2 during boot, the Ext HD "seems" to be recognized, but Win7 Explorer does NOT list device. The USB Ext Drive is brand new, never used and is destined to be a data store for TIVO files.

If BIOS is the issue, a link to update would be helpful.

Thx in advance for any help.

Has the new drive been "prepared" and/or set up in Windows? Go to Control Panel/System Security and then click on Create and Format Hard Disc Partitions under Administrative Tools.

You can format the new drive in this panel and make it active.
