i know it was stupid but... i didnt think fans would do anything to it as i have disconnected fans before when the computer has been running and hasnt done anything to it... Should i still try disconnecting the fans ?

Disconnecting the fans with the computer on is a bad idea. You may get by with it once or twice. Or not. As DeVandal said - you should turn off the computer if you are mucking around in it or going to unplug anything.

I found the best way to apply paste is with some wax paper on my finger onto the cooler. It spreads easily and uniformly. You only want a thin layer and to thinly cover the pipes and maybe a tad more in the grooves between the heat pipes.

When you put the cooler on the CPU move it around just a *little* bit to spread the paste out.

It can't be much else other than the coupling of the cooler since you seem to have adequate air flow. If you ran out of thermal paste that says to me you put too much on. Go out and by some Arctic Silver 5 and apply a thin layer.

well i say there is still some left but when my friend did it seemed like he used a fair amount of it (been a while since he did it but more experienced than me)... So is that the main thing that could cause temperatures like that? because its kind of annoying buying a cpu cooler assuming it would cool the computer a fair bit when it stays about the same as the stock cooler

You only need a very small amount (about the size of a grain of rice)

Yes the main thing - unless you are overclocking and have your core voltage on the CPU too high. You use the CPU, it heats up, and you have to carry the heat away.

I have a 212+ and it works great so don't be annoyed at it. It is a good cooler. If the paste is on to thick heat won't conduct through it very well. You basically just enough so that all of the surface of heat pipes are in contact thermally with the CPU - that there are no air gaps. It doesn't take much - about a rice grain in size. You can find videos on the Internet and see how much - but I will swear by my was paper applicator - I haven't seen anyone use that .

I expect you will. Clean the old paste off with cotton swabs and alcohol. It is a real PITA to clean off. Watch a video. Make sure you don't get goop down into the CPU socket.

How are my temps ?
Hello ! I had some mysterious shut-downs (PC just shut off) and opened the case up and cleaned out a ton of dust. Also, some loose cables were possibly blocking airflow. I tried to get everything cleaned up, and ran SpeedFan 4.43, and this is what I got. This is AFTER minor clean up and...
