    Monitor

My elderly neighbour finds it hard to see the 17 inch screen on her pc, so advised her to get a 24 inch monitor ,problem is the monitor resolution is 1920*1080 but her graphics card will only output up to to 1280*1024.Will a 24 inch monitor work ok and will the image fill the screen and not be out of focus

You do not want to run a 17 or 24 inch monitor at 1920*1080 for someone with poor vision.

The lower the resolution, the easier to see. Also, adjust the DPI setting to 125% in Display.

Try the resolution and DPI change before investing in a new monitor. She might be happy.

Yikes they might even have a harder time seeing at that resolution. Do you happen to have an old CRT laying around? That would probably be best best option for them.. 1024 x 768 or 800 x 600.

The monitor she has now is 17 inch so at low res the pages need to be scrolled a lot on the screen, will she be able to use low res ie 800*600 on a bigger monitor and still have a clear image that will fit the comlete screen

I run my 22" on 1440x900 with good results. I have also set the DPI to 150% (in: Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display ). In addirion I set the IE at 125%. With all that, I can see alright - else I see nothing.

PS: Just checked my laptop with a 16" HD screen. There I made the same settings with good results.

800*600 on a 50 inch monitor will present the same image "real estate" as 800*600 on a 17 inch screen.
