Interesting problem

Hi,

Recently I installed an SSD (OCZ VERTEX II 80 gB) in my Medio Akoya Notebook. I installed W7 Ultimate x64, made some tweaks like disable defrag en index en search. Everything worked fine. I installed some programs en everything still worked fine. Suddenly this problem came up.

Every time I startup my computer, work on it, install programs, create files, etc... and in the end shut it down, after starting it up again the computer is in the same state as before all those changes.

However when i do all these things and restart it (without shutting it down) the changes are still there. When I then shut it down again the changes are all gone again.

It looks like every time the computer starts up, it uses the latest restore point.

I'm desperate and after trying allmost every option i don't know what to do anymore.

I can't make any system changes because when I shut down my computer and start it up again, it's in the state I left it before.

Sounds like you may have enabled the hidden(may not even exist) steady state feature.

Well I guess so! But steady state is no part of Windows 7. Question is. How do I disable it?

Since you set up the system, Steady State wouldn't be on there unless you knowingly put it there, so it sounds more like you have a corrupt user profile or OS that is still functional to a point. Do you remember if you made any system changes right after the point it returns to each time?

Before you waste days trying to chase this one, I would try to set back to a restore point from before the problem occured. Else a reinstall may still be faster than chasing this.

For the furure I suggest you do frequent imaging and keep a good selection of images so that you have a safe restore capability: Imaging with free Macrium I do not recommend you use the Win7 native imaging because keeping a whole selection of images is not obvious. Neither is it possible to do proper image scheduling.

I did re-install windows 7 several times. I even used different dvd's. The problem keeps coming back. The last time I discoverd it after I put my computer in hybernation mode.

My guess is that it is maybe a hardware problem, maybe a conflict with the ssd drive or something. Restoring to an earlier state doesn't do it either. The system hangs in the restore process.

When I put my older harddisk back with Windows 7 x86 there's no problem at all.

Try this: Go into Services and disable Volume Shadow Copy. And also Microsoft Software Shadow Provider.
