Changing HDD on a laptop

Hi, all!

I soon be getting a new laptop from Lenovo.
However, I'm planning to exchange the HDD with my current laptop, (it's better than the one i ordered) and it's running windows 7 professional.

Would it be okay if I simply just chnage the HDD without re-installing the whole process from the bottom?

Would the genuine verification issue occur?

I'm just trying to use my current laptop's HDD on my new laptop.

I know that in XP, it could not relocate its new hardware/drivers so it failed to load windows.

However, i saw a posting about this issue that even if the mainboard and CPU were changed, windows 7 re-adjusted itself to the new hardware.

Just wanted to be sure before I perform this operation on my laptops.

Chances are, if the platforms are similar, it will boot, but you will most definitely have to reactivate it. I would use the key on your new laptop, because it technically violates the EULA to try and use the old key. Plus, you'd have the old key available for the old laptop.

That all being said, considering laptops have a lot of unique apps and OEM software, I would still highly recommend a fresh install. People are usually afraid of doing this, as they think it will take too long, but it is a simple process, and leaves the new laptop running at its best. I'd take the time to download drivers for the new laptop, while you are booting the old....store them on a flash drive, and do a fresh, clean install.
