How to create 2 shortcuts to same printer, but different settings?

I had (on Vista) 2 shortcuts in the Printers folder, both of which pointed to the same printer. But, one shortcut was for DUPLEX printing and the other was for single-sided printing.

I can't figure out (or remember) how to create a second shortcut to the same printer, now that I'm on Windows 7. Please enlighten me :)

I don't have any printers that support duplex, but I do recall having set up a few twice for monochrome / color.

According to my best recollection, install the printer twice. Rename the two copies accordingly and change the printer properties to make them do what you want.

Not much help, but maybe it will jog your memory from when you did it previously.

Ah ha, I was thrown by the "Add Printer" window that pops up asking, "What type of printer do you want to install?" The first item says "Add a local printer - use this option only if you don't have a USB printer. (Windows automatically installs USB printers when you plug them in.)"

Despite the fact that my printer IS connected via USB, I ignored that message and proceeded by clicking on "Add a local printer" then specifying the rest of the parameters.

    Thank you!
