CPU Permanently Lost Speed?

I have a Pentium Dual Core 2.80ghz and the cores are running at 1.60ghz! Is that because my CPU used to run at over 100C idle? Help!

Hello there.

Wait. your CPU might be running underclocked because you have speedstep enabled on BIOS, speedstep is a function that allows the processor to underclock itself for power saving.

100ºC on idle would have melt your processor. or at least damage it really badly.

Could you upload a screenshot from speccy to check the temps?

Ok, 51ºC is a little bit high (i don't know if that's idle or load), i have the same processor family (E6500) and it's running at 37ºC with a 30ºC room temp.

Have you cleaned your PC lately? your CPU fan could be dirty and that could be blocking the airflow.

Cleaning it stopped it from running at 100C

Ok, when you cleaned it, did you change the thermal compound? or you didn't took out the CPU heatsink/fan?

Because i still find 51ºC on idle a little bit on the high side my E6500 has never reached 60ºC under full load
