SSD causing BSOD?

Hey guys,

I recently bought a Corsair V64 Nova Series SSD, installed windows7 on it, works ok for a few days then i start getting random BSOD's well, mainly within the first few minutes of windows loading.

So, i re-installed windows, everything was working fine for a few days, then the BSOD's again.

I thought this was a RAM issue at first, then a driver issue but everything works fine withought the SSD.

About 10 minutes ago i switched my computer on, was greeted with the all too familiar blue screen, but check this out, after it restarted i got "BOOTMGR image is corrupted, system cannot boot"

So i manually restarted and here i am now, running perfectly fine, and will do for any duration, until i switch off and leave for a few hours.

Can anyone confirm this is pointing to my SSD?

My first suggestion/question.

Have you updated the ssd firmware?

Yes, i have the latest 2.2 version, im starting to wonder if its my ram again now, this problem is soo hard to fix!

Computer just bsod again after i did a scheduled restart for an error check, and started making long beep sounds, had to leave it off for a few minutes to get it to start up again, switched RAM to a different slot, also noticed PSU is quite hot

well you can use memtest86 to check the ram easy enough.

Hard to tell whether this is cause by the SSD per se or whether it is a more generic disk problem that could have happened with any disk. I have SSDs (Intel and OCZ) on all my 6 systems and have never seen anything alike.

The bootmgr problem points to a more generic problem, but a defective nand is definitely a possibility. Before you do the next installation, I would do a "sanitary erase". I am not sure which tools Corsair has for this, but I believe they are Intel based and they have tools.

One thing you can check immediately is the alignment. See here: SSD Alignment A bad alignment can be the cause of all kinds of trouble.

Last point; I assume you installed Win7 with an installation disk - because if you installed it with an image, there are all kinds of pitfalls. Then we would need further discussion.

"more generic disk problem" what do you mean by this? One of the drives in raid?

I was not given any software with my V64, what is a sanitary erase?

The link you have provided to check allignment does not show you how to check allingment, just how to allign a new partition.

I didn't use a disk to install, on the first install i used a bluray disk, and everything was weird, e.g. fonts in the cmd were weird, thickness of taskbars, the minimise and X buttons looked weird.

The second install was via a USB stick, which i have used many times in the past without any problems.

1, generic meaning that it is not SSD specific but could be any Sata problem
2. for Sanitary Erase you have to look on the Corsair website or on the web
3. of course it shows how to check the alignment. Look under "Verification"
4. what is the origin of this installation USB stick. Is that a copy of the recovery partition?

Another check - see whether didk defrag is disabled. It should be

I would just like to post that i have now solved the problem :) i took my computer apart, hoovered the case and blew compressed air on the parts, put some new paste on the cpu, put it all back together and voila. There must have been a small piece of metal shorting somewhere or something, the case has been modified, welding was involved lol.
