Ponmayilal,

I returned to this thread to see if you would have any comments about this remote"

2.4GHz Mini Slim RF Wireless Multimedia Keyboard Remote - eBay (item 310287731909 end time Mar-13-11 21:11:19 PDT)

In particular to the touchpad operation, but I did read your last comment stating your preference to a trackball. Since I have never worked with anything touchpad, I suspect that I would feel the same as you, but still I wonder if your preference is totally subjective, or if there something specific that makes it inferior to a trackball?

Also, if you have any hands on experience with this particular remote? The reason for my questions is that I like the fact that it is backlit, and has rechargeable batteries.

I have no idea about the Ipazzport device. There seems to be many iterations of this device as I gathered after a google search where you can find many reviews. I would stay away from lesser known products.

IMO, all input/output devices, when compared to other hardware, are subject to more interaction with the sensory perceptions of the user and as such subjectivity is inevitable. For such devices a "hands-on" trial where you see it, feel it and try it will be the best as I suggested to the OP.

As for the touchpad/trackball preference, you try on a laptop for a few hours. If you feel you are as good on it as operating a normal mouse then you pass the test. (I am an absolute failure on a laptop.. If someone asks me to check something on their laptop, I always hesitate and then used to scurry for a USB mouse. After the Lenovo KB, life has become easier. I just push in the USB dongle and use the trackball. feel its even more convenient than the USB mouse.)

That would be good advice, if I had access to a laptop, but I don't. At the moment, I'm more concerned about Ipazzports designed functions and inate ease of use, rather than it reliability, because that could only be known by personal experience.

I have been going around in circles, trying to find the perfect remote to order, but it appears that the Lenovo is as close as I'm going to get. Maybe I will tape a mini-flashlight on it, so that I can read the keys in the dark.

I had misread this, or my memory failed me. I now notice that you only included the EZ Commander as being able to be programmed to the media player of choice, but just to be certain, will the Lenovo not do this?

I just placed the order for the Lenovo. It was easy to decide, because I found a coupon that discounted it to $29.30 shipped.

Good to know that you have made your choice.

As a hardware only, both Lenovo KB/remote and EZ commander remote can only control WMP/WMC
EZ Commander is supplied with the EZ input software. It is this software running in the background that automatically maps other media players that is being used to the EZ Commander facilitating their control (apart from the multilingual onscreen KB). Complete list of Media software/players that can be controlled with EZinput software running here . No such mapping software comes with Lenovo KB/remote. It is like any other PC multimedia KB.

May be I inadvertently created some confusion before without mentioning the EZinput software.

The remote just arrived, and the fact that UPS awoke me probably accounts for the fog that I'm in, but I'm having a problem figuring out how to use it. Two things are currently a problem...how do you open WMP or Media Center with it (or for that matter, any program)? If browsing, how do you scroll the page? Oh, and a third question...What is the Fn key for, since it appears that there are no F keys?

The instructions that came with this are almost useless, because all that it describes are the absolute most basic.

EDIT: I guess that I'm starting to wake up, because I did figure out my previous questions...at least as far as I can see, but one thing still bugs me...is there a way to adjust the cursor speed of the trackball, other than that found in Windows Mouse Wizard? I already have that set for maximum, but it requires spinning the trackball ~ 5 times to traverse the monitor's screen, and ~ 4 times from top to bottom (perhaps spinning is the wrong word to use, because if I literally spun the ball, it would move much faster than that, but that is not the way that I want to use the trackball).

There is no other way except using Control Panel>Mouse and adjusting the various parameters. I have left all in their default conditions and quite comfortable with it. Hmmm.......... no scroll wheel and we have been spoilt. Remember the days when there was no scroll wheel?

The Fn Key, as you have already figured it out, is used to enter special characters/special functions marked in orange on the keys.

(Wo)Men's needs are always insatiable.

I'm considering also buying an EZ Commander, as the Lenovo is good, but is also limited in what it can do, however, my question goes off in a wild tangent. When eBaying for the remote, I also came across this:

Remote Light Commander EZ - eBay (item 250662160935 end time May-02-11 14:17:39 PDT)

I already have some remotely controlled lights on another system, but I can't use them for overhead lights, because it require plugging the light cord into the control. This would be kind of neat, because it simply screws in between the light bulb and socket. However, it doesn't come with a remote of it's own, it claims that it can use most RF remotes, but without any instructions on how that is done.

I got to wondering if the EZ Commander can be programmed for just any RF device, or if it is dedicated to PC/multimedia only?

EDIT: Nevermind, I realized after posting that since this communicates via a USB receiver, that it would not work with anything else. I really don't want to pay the price of true universal remote, and unless it was IR, it wouldn't be all that useful, since it would require a line of sight path to use it (it would be just as easy to flip a light switch).
