    D:\ not showing in Explorer but shows as the partition in disk managem


    I installed partition magic to format a external HDD with the FS FAT32 since ps3 supports only FAT32 but to my dismay D:\ where I have all my data does not show up on explorer it shows up in disk management with the size of the disk 115.7 GB unable to explore add or change drive letter PS help..I installed recover partition and all the files shows up but I dont have an option to recover...

    Did you initialize that partition before you put data on it. But if you want to do it now, save your data first. Try using a live Linux distro. That may work.

    Who knows what Partition Magic does. That is an old defunct program that has not been updated in 5 years. Next time use Disk Management or Partition Wizard.

    Thanks for the post could you please tell me what is "initializing partition" it was working all these days I will try the livee Linux distro anyway but is there some thing gone wrong with NTFS table ??

    It is very possible that the MFT (master file table) got a hit.

    The Initialize is for new disks (not new partitions) that have never been used. You right click on where it says Disk0, Disk1, etc. in Disk Management. I was not sure whether we talk about a new disk or new partition though.

    But if this disk has worked for a while, there must be another problem.

    It is a partition and MFT how can this be taken care of.......

    The MFT gets created when you format the partition - but that wipes all data.

    Hi,

    Used DiskInternals Partition Recovery 3.0 was able to get back the data.
