Thanks for the updates guys, for keeping this thread updated. I waited for years to get a 64bit driver. We ought to be using at the very least 128bit standards in this age, you know Microsoft and Apple are so slow at enforcing 64bit standards, we are 3 decades behind in technology! No wonder software devs are so lazy. Linux core is almost as bloated as windows are these days. Vast changes are required fast. I am considering building my own super computer at a good cost. Why spend 15k on An apple system when you can spend 3k on components that can be made into a super computer. I digress a little though.
I contacted Canon UK today, they only have support in Germany, the email address and web host is located in Germany. I received only the automated response so far and am awaiting their support response within the new week. I truly hope they are honest to their word that they shall make a 64bit driver. I will keep you updated on the response I get.
What really surprises me is the promotional aspects of marketing and how brands sell for the aesthetics of a case design than quality of components, parts. This applies not only to Canon, but companies such as Redmond, I realise how people value ease of use (I surely do as an end user), how quality is often overlooked, how standardisation and generic branding is ignored or how software support is not as good as it ought to be. Windows 7 is better than Vista, or is it? Why do people think this, is it due to lack of negative press. I for one notice only speed improvements -- zero intercompatibility with legacy Vista or XP software drivers. Microsoft won't provide the support nor the compatibility they rant and rave about in their promotionals. Third party companies only bother to have basic support without future driver and software support. I suppose the devil is in the detail, the only thing that matters is the legal contract agreements we are bonded to when we make a transaction. Corporations know this, the rest is made up with PR and complaints departments that serve no purpose. There is no alternative for the time being, very little competition either.
Today I received an email reply from Canon Helpdesk. They stated that there is no set date to release 64 bit drivers.
Yesterday I tried installing the Windows 7 drivers on W7 32bit OS and they failed to install. I am not happy about this at all. I should start a new support ticket and see if they have an answer then in 4 weeks time from now ask them once again about the 64bit edition drivers to see if I get the same or a different response.
Although they have not given a date for release, the good thing is they will be working on making 64bit edition drivers for "most" "of its products".

Regarding your query, Canon is working on drivers for windows 7 for most of its products however the availability of the 64 bit edition is not know yet. I would suggest keeping an eye on the download page.

I downloaded the drivers for 32 bit Windows 7 and Vista and they work fine and have been ever since I bought this printer in mid 2008. I just wish they would develop and release the 64 bit drivers!!!!
I spoke to Canon Support this morning in the UK and the guy I spoke to said that although he had seen a document implying that there would be 64 bit drivers for this printer some 6 months ago, as we hadn't seen them yet he didn't hold out much hope for their release. He also said that if they were coming then they might come in the first quarter of 2010.
I have a support ticket for this issue lodged with Caon and this morning I have sent them a reminder of our needs with a copy of the URL for this particular discussion forum in the hope that whoever receives it might be able to forward it on to their management/developers.
Maybe if we keep pushing them something might be done.
Well, after Canon Australia told me an availability date of 15th December for these drivers, it has come and gone and no sign of the drivers
I will email them again for an update and keep you posted.
Thanks for sharing this with us. I actually never gave it thought to make a phone call to one of what could have been just another foreign call centre with a UK number that redirects to Asia, or Germany if lucky. Non (or most) of these multi nationals bother with the UK these days, so why should I help make them richer when they cannot offer proper technical support hotlines (0800) or product life support for driver updates. I do not know if UK support lines are freephone or if they employ English speaking people - I was just saying what my pov is in regards to companies in general these days that sell/import into but do not operate in the UK.
As long as Windows supports printers then in theory I should be able to have new drivers for a 10,20,30 year old product. If it still works, don't fix it! I went through so many printers in the years - all those rip off injket ones that require ink for fun! I went through a phase of refilling ink myself for about two years until I finally invested into my Canon Laser printer (now I only pay £15 for my toners and get 2,000 or 4,000 prints). Now Canon appear to not care about supporting driver updates, what do I do in this situation? In the past I looked on Russian web servers for software hacks (yes some of the best programmers in the world that like to offer a service to the people! for FREE are Russian) it was used to bypass a service of my Epson printer. The Russian hackware just bypassed the chipset software and told it that it had been serviced so no need for me to spend £££ on that nonsense. All the service engineer would have done is the same as the Russian hackware did. Why pay for that when you can re-enable printing again!
It would not surprise me if companies (any brand or non brand name) put software on chips of products programmed to expire/disable or delete software operation once warranty has expired! Making us buy new products in this throw away world, it is very simple for them to do and yields trillions of dollars each year for them that which otherwise would not have been possible, so if they do this then I imagine they get away with it unnoticed for the most part. Manufacturing is not driven by demand as much as we like to think it is, it is a very artificial economy just as the banking system is that prints and loans money to governments - which is responsible for all causes of all booms and busts of all economies throughout all history of fractional reserve banking and usury. Production run lines employ slaves on min wage; but then over half of the world population are true slaves to the manufacturing industry alone!
If by May 2010 Canon has not released a 64bit driver compatible for XP, Vista, and W7 I will hire a programmer myself and have them make one (if this is possible), if I can find a competent programmer that is. It is far more economical than wasting money into what will become obsolete in 2012 when Windows 8 is released! Thanks for nothing Canon! Just another brand name with a nice case to lure in customers.
If they fail to release drivers (it is because they are greedy!) then I shall boycott them for the rest of my life - not just for printers and scanners but everything they make I will ensure not one single product I buy has a component made or sold by them. Us consumers have had enough of the throw away world. We do have the power to drive supply with our demand! So we can shape policy of companies (which consumers in Europe have demonstrated previously!), this means not having a throw away world, of course we know mass production run/lines make it cheaper to dump everything in the landfills every 6 or so months in favour of new shiny toxic plastic cases with components inside that will soon become obsolete once more.

Be advised that it is with regret that I must inform you that we will not be developing dedicated Canon drivers that would allow your device to be interfaced with a PC on which Microsoft Windows 7 Operating System is installed.
As this statement was a disappointing surprise, I just send a quick reply to escalate the problem, but assume we have no other choice than either use obsolete Windows or to take a look for some different printer (produced by some other company as per #17), if you're planning to use some newer Win versions in the future...

Having tried this out I can confirm that the 32 bit drivers for both XP, Vista and Windows 7 (actually the same driver release) work on an x86 based CPU. As we all now know, there are no 64 bit drivers for the LBP 3000.
As far as I can tell, one of the reasons why there was no demand for 64 bit drivers when Vista came out is that when Vista was released for general consumption, the majority of users went for 32 bit (64 bit wasn't supplied as a matter of course). With Windows 7 you get installation DVDs for both 32 bit and 64 bit, so many users who have 64 bit dual core etc Pcs are going for the 64 bit installation, hence the demand for 64 bit drivers.
However having said all that there is no reason why Canon should be able to get away with not writing 64 bit drivers for the LBP 3000. I have another Canon printer which I use for colour printing etc (the Pixma MP750) which is much older than the LBP 3000 but for which there is a 64 bit driver which works just fine in Windows 7 and Vista.
So over to you Canon , please can you get this sorted.
Yep, I'm also atm on Win 7 32bit where LBP 3000 Vista drivers are running without any problems;
Anyway, my Canon ticket just got escalated to L2 support staff in UK, first outlook of release date is mid of Jan 2010, so crossing fingers...
