Why would desktop fail to wake-up from sleep?

    Mine a Dell Desktop-XPS/Dimension 9200 bought Jan 2007
This came with Wireless keyboard & Mouse.

I find from time to time when after a period of not active & computer has gone to sleep could not wake up by tapping the wireless mouse or wireless keyboard.

The event viewer has the following as Critical event:

Does anybody know how could I avoid this from happening so that I do not have to force shut & restart?
    Regards

Is SP1 installed? If so, take a look at Windows 7 Sleep Mode Issues After SP1 Is Deployed

    You're wecome! :)
If after installing the hotfix ( KB 2495523 ) the problem still persists, go back and let us know!

Do you have a SCSI miniport driver for your boot disk? If not, then you shouldn't install the hotfix.

To see if the hotfix will fix your problem, If you are hibernating, disable hibernation. If you are using "hybrid" sleep mode, disable it in power options (advanced -> sleep -> hybrid).

The issue that the patch address is twofold: 1. hibernation in SP1 (which hybrid sleep does) doesn't work to SCSI miniport disk and 2. You don;t get a crash dump from the resultant STOP because that doesn't work either.

If you disable both as I described above, and you still have problems, then the hotfix isn't going to help.

I am not certain if I have the above!!

Mine happens to have trouble from waking up very seldom-It seems from the log once a month.
When ever it refuses [a very rare event] to wake up from sleep,I have no option but had to force stop and then I will re-start in safe-mode.

I seem to remember this has been happening well before from my SP-1 installation.

I will not install the hotfix and waiting to observe if happens again.
In your opinion, is it worth trying the work around that you have suggested?

Yes, you can always change them back if it doesn't help!
