Intel X25-M 120GB SSD - Deactivated on Newegg

A sign of things to come go?

    Just saw this on Newegg.

The new Intel G3 SSDs are rumored to be released today.
With the same Intel controller, with only slightly better speed than the G2's.

Maybe they are planning to compete on price alone.

Meet Intel's SSD 320, The Postville Refresh

    A drop from the G2 prices, that's a start.

I actually just saw another post detailing the new series here on this website. Apparently they consider the new models superior enough that they are discontinuing their production on the older series. ...so yes, just a sign of things to come.

I just bought the Intel Gen 2 120GB from Newegg last week. Oh well, would have liked the $20 price drop though.

Dave, in another thread you spoke of having a 120GB coming. Gen 2 or this new one?

I got the G2, after reading some of the early articles and reviews of the G3 25nm I decided to wait for the dust to settle.

Looks like there is not that much of a performance increase.
The price is a bit better though.

That's been the general theme of improvements to devices across the board lately though. Lower power consumption and better price without decreasing performance.
This trend is especially visible in the graphics card market.

Prices are looking better all the time and this from a guy that paid over $800 for a 30 megabyte hard disk way back when. :)

I knew about the new Intel SATA III drives but had not seen any news of these new SATA II. Like you say though, not much difference and I'll go to SATA III or better down the road with a new mobo as this one is SATA II. I'm real happy with what I've got now though.

Actually, Intel is releasing new versions of the X25-M's which are still based on SATA 3.0Gbps. These are better priced, and have higher IOPS than the previous generation drives. While write speeds have increased about 3x, read speeds are mostly the same as previous gen drives.

Then there are the Intel 510 series SSD's which are based on SATA 6.0Gbps and these offer far higher read/write throughputs, but far lower IOPS across the board than the previous generation drives.

    Here is a story with some more detailed information for you;
