    Upgrading Ram

I'm going to be giving my Win 7 pc a boost by upgrading the ram to 2x2048 ocz 6400 ddr2 800mhz chips. If I mix them with two 1024x2 pc5300 will it turn off dual channel, worsen performance, or benefit? Thanks! Also my mobo specs are below the acual motherboard is a nettle 2 and runs an amd 5000+ cpu. Ideally it would be cool if one channel ran at its native speed and the other channel at its own native speed.

Well as I keep reading stuff my nettle 2 board has 1.8v memory chips, will they automatically adjust to run a higher voltage, say 2.1v?

On the hp website it says it will uspport dual channel memory for pc4200, pc5300, and pc6400 @ 800mhz. Does that mean that my oem bios will automatically adjust the voltages, because with the oem there's obviously no manual way of going about this

At this point I simply want to know if these will run:

The same type of RAM with higher speed capabilities can be used on motherboard which supports that particular memory type, but it will work to the rated speed supported by the motherboard or at the speed of the slowest memory on the memory bus. Hope this helps.

No. You will have to adjust that in the BIOS IF it supports voltage adjustments for RAM.

    RAM

So if it is an oem board that shows support for pc6400 dual channel, the voltage won't reapply itself to what is neeed? Arethere any pc6400 chips that even run at 1.8.

    Edit: http://www.ocztechnology.com/product...module_4gb_kit

This is a 1.8v chip but it says that by default it starts at 667 and has to manually get pushed to 800mhz. Here is the ram support page for my motherboard. I am getting very frustrated over the fact that it clearly shows support for pc6400 800mhz but doesnt say anything in regards to voltage. Heres the support page.

There may be 1.8 volt. You should look at your BIOS and see if you can adjust the voltage for RAM. If you cant....it will still run at 1.8 you should be fine. However I would check the voltage adjustments available and adjust if you can. A lot of OEM boards don't have the option (or it's hidden, you might search that) but you'll be fine with 1.8. I have some RAM that wants 2-2.1V and I ran it for a couple of days until I found out you are supposed to change it. I have a higher end board (and BIOS) so I had the option. I would get the same speed RAM you have now and slap it in. That's your best option. That way you don't waste $$ on something that will just run at your other dimm speeds.

Also to answer your question my PC6400 in one machine does run at 1.8. I think a lot of it runs at 1.8V.

Gotta go...be back at about 5:00 AM if you still have questions I can answer. Hope this has helped.

Well, ideally i'd like to run it with the other dimms but if I remove all of the dimms I have and just put in 2048mbx2 pc6400 @800mhz will that work? That would be a faster speed and then I would definitely make the move to 64 bit. I wouldn't care about the other chips just that these two chips work at the speed they're supposed to, and that they dont crap out my motherboard. Also have yo heard of any specific problms with ram under voltage?

Thanks for all of your help so far.

If you want to run 2048X2 pc6400 that would be a good idea. If you can't adjust the voltage, just leave it at normal (1.8) and it will be fine. It MAY not run at full potential and you will not be able to overclock the RAM but it should run fine. There are so many people running RAM under voltage out there you should have 0 problems. Go for it. Also get on the 64 bit wagon. It's great.

    RAM

I gave you the scales because you are such a wonderful help. Here's the two chips that I am looking at that I think will work best. I really like the G.SKills but I'm willing to go with mushkins. Please review the two links and tell me your opinion.

I would go with this one if it were me. Thanks for the rep, I hope I have helped a little. Good luck with the RAM. I run Gskill too. Seems to be good stuff.
