Bluetooth Initial Configuration Will Not Launch

I have an HP Pavilion dv3 which was built with Vista Home Premium x64 and upgraded to Windows 7 almost a year ago. I recently purchased an Iogear GBU421 (Bluetooth 2.1 Mini Adapter) and followed the instructions in the included manual. I have a laptop with a slot-loading CD drive, so I downloaded the drivers from the Iogear webpage and installed from the setup.exe. I restarted my computer and tried to turn the device on from the system tray. What happens is the icon (which looks like a tall blue hexagon with a red X through it) disappears when I select "Turn Adapter On", and nothing happens. The icon reappears 1-2 minutes later. The following Bluetooth-related services are running currently: btwdins.exe, BTTray.exe.

I already tried un- and re-installing the device driver software, without success. Any suggestions?

SOLVED: Turns out all I needed to do was have Windows Update install new driver software from the device manager. Bluetooth now behaves normally on my Bluetooth-ready cellphone.

    pikalax-

What specific steps did you take to resolve this? I'm having your exact problem with the GBU421, and tried updating the drivers on all of my devices listed as "USB Human Interface Device" but all of them come back saying they've got the proper driver already installed. I've looked all over and apparently you and I are the only people on the internet who've experienced this.

It should be under Bluetooth Radios in the DM. It's listed as "Broadcom 2046 Bluetooth 2.1+EDR USB Device with First Connect".

Dang it. I don't have anything listed as "Bluetooth [whatever]" in the Device Manager. All I've got is a sea of USB Input Devices and USB Human Interface Devices, which is what the dongle is being reported as when Windows tells me my device is "installed and ready to use." Bummer.

Well I appreciate the response nonetheless.

All right, I have found a solution that should help everyone having problems with this IOGear Micro Bluetooth Adapter GB421 and Windows 7 64 bit.

For the cute little mini CD that comes with the adapter? Burn it, crush it, stomp on it, cook it, drop it off a building, destroy it, or otherwise desecrate it. That thing is worthless. Same goes for the drivers you can download from IOGear's website. They're the reason the Bluetooth icon in the system tray shows up blue and red.

Instead, first go here: Windows 7 Compatibility for WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software version 6.3: Broadcom. Drivers, Updates, Downloads
Which should direct you to the Broadcomm website to update your Bluetooth drivers here: Broadcom.com - Bluetooth Software Download

Follow ALL the instructions to the letter and the installer should get all your ducks in row. It worked for me when I thought I had run out of options.

So now I am enjoying Bluetooth capabilities in Win7 x64. Yay.

Filler, thank you for directing me to the actual solution for this setup (Windows 7 Ultimate x64 w/this IOGear Micro Bluetooth Adapter GB421). Now I'm finally set, too. =]

    Really, thank you.
