Fan filters
Don't know if I am in the right spot but...
Just done a build and bought some of those fantastic fan filters from PCCG (Australia) - but a bit pricey @ $9.50!
DEMCi Flex Fan Filter 120mm Black [DEMCI-FF120B] - $9.50 : PC Case Gear
These fit obviously on the outside but my idea is for the nside of the case/ing.
So came up with using bridal tulle (the fine veil stuff they have around their head going into church for anyone not in Oz) . Bought 2.7M (standard width) x 600mm - enough to make about 40 - 200x200mm filters - cost? $5! (Australia)
Just cut the tulle (black or white) to 200mm squares (or smaller if need be - see below) fit them over the fan before you mount them into the fan before installation. As an after thought white might give a better indication of the state of the filter "catchment" - hmmmmm.. but not so attractive eh?
You might need to make a small start to a hole (small leather punch) where the fixing screws go through for ease of fitting, but I'm sure no-one will struggle with doing that lol!!
After fitting the fan in the case trim the material to cover the edge of the venting hole - top, bottom, sides - whatever, you can be as neat or untidy as youlike no-ons going to seethe result - uless yuo are like me and fussy re neatness.
If the fan is a 120 then cut to say a 125mm square. A 120 over a 140 venting aperture you can custom cut the tulle to the vent hole size say 145mm for that slight overlap although the retaining material may be seen at the vent hole edge (more filters to be had by economising) Prsonall y I'd go with 150x150mm. Again if the fan is a 140 cut to say 150mmx150mm squares instead of the 200mm ones first mentioned and trim.
Then hold the edge down with either that pliable magnetic strip or the "invisible" Sellotape (doesn't perish like the clear stuff) to the inside of the case sides, top, bottom etc etc.
I suppose if you were really inventive and handy you could even make one that sticks to the outside like the bought ones but reckon that might incur a bit more cost.
The tulle is not the medical grade stuff that the manufactured ones are made of but will be fine enough for anything but Bull dust!!
Cleaning is just vacuuming, taking out and wash or even at that price - replace!
If you feel you might be seen as being a bit "girly" going in and buying this - then ask the Boss, girlfriend/s or nice neighbour to get it for you.
Me I couldn't give a fly's footprint what anyone thinks lol!!
The beauty of it is the cost and fitting is not rocket science in any way.
By the by the white stuff works really well in fish tank filters for the larger debris!!
