Windows 7: running Win7 and discs not being recognized drive is shown

Pebbly thank you will do. Will you tell me the definition of firmware. I have been online since early '98 and every day I learn something new.

Firmware is like an updated driver for the drive ,Its a set of program codes that tell the drive how to react to a set of instructions from the PC http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firmware

My Commodo has a virus checker and it looks like the program suggested will conflict.

Yes a legitimite version after a format of the drive. Needless to say I was ticked having to do it.

I wanted to make sure Pebbly knew I had checked to see if drivers needed updating and could only see where the drive was name with no action on it.

Updating the firmware will not show up in device manager as needing an updated driver , the firmware is like a bios chip in the CD/DVD drive , which program is commodo telling you it has a conflict with ?

Good, thats 1 less problem , now we need to get the drive working and reading discs , have you tried a disc since you have run the delete msg program ? I will be back in a short while (time to let the dogs out for a run )
