Pebbly thank you will do. Will you tell me the definition of firmware. I have been online since early '98 and every day I learn something new.

I am trying to catch up with the msgs. The drive came with the puter, I also have an external drive. No on the install of image software. I checked an it only showed the name of the drive with no indication that it was functioning etc. Nope it came with Vista and my step son tried to put a version of Win7 on it. I found out later it was not a geniune one which necessitated me putting a genuine one on which I have done.
Did you upgrade to the legitimate version or clean installed ? :)

Firmware is like an updated driver for the drive ,Its a set of program codes that tell the drive how to react to a set of instructions from the PC :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firmware

I wanted to make sure Pebbly knew I had checked to see if drivers needed updating and could only see where the drive was name with no action on it.

Updating the firmware will not show up in device manager as needing an updated driver , the firmware is like a bios chip in the CD/DVD drive , which program is commodo telling you it has a conflict with ?
