Monitor HD Fail

I've got a new BenQ G2420HD series LCD monitor and an HD enabled, windows seven ultimate, 64bit pc. However, when I connect my monitor to my PC using HDMI, my PC detects it (I've checked with a second monitor), it knows the name of it and can change the resolution etc. quite happily but no display shows on the monitor. The monitor just says 'no cables connected'. It works fine if I connect it with a DVI cable (haven't bothered trying VGA) but I want HD! What's going on???

Thanks

Sounds like HDMI being flaky like it can be from time to time. All things considering I wold just use the DVI connection seeing as it works. That and other than HDMI can carry audio, there isn't a difference between the two,

6870 dual monitor fail
I've got a Sapphire Radeon 6870 that seems to have only one working DVI port, of the two on it. Both sets of cables work, one is brand new. Both monitors work. I can't use the HDMI out as I don't have an extension cable. I've tried using just the one that apparently doesn't work after a restart,...
