I wouldn't mix memory but look over the specs on the board there to see which is the fastest DDR2 memory supported and upgrade. With DDR2 memory prices down you can drop a pair of 2gb dimms in and be set for the 32bit Windows there with approximately 3.57gb available for use.

If the fastest is 667mhz run with that. When mixing faster memory with slower and not running into clashes with different timings or voltages the faster memory will be reduced to the slower memory's speed. If you could reply with the model number of the Gigabyte board you have listed in your specs that would be a help.

That usually works out the best. Be sure to look over the user manual's section on installing memory. That will specify the maximum amount, if the board will take 1gb or 2gb dimms, and one thing important with Gigabyte boards in particular is the voltage for the memory.

When first buying memory on the recent build here also running a Gigabyte model I went with some OCZ 1.9v memory and saw the 1600mhz memory backclock to 1066 and 1333 with the memory clock raised. The board's manual not the recommended list seen online pointed to 1.5v memory. When the OCZ was swapped out the new Mushkin 1.5v memory(what was available at the time) saw the full 1600mhz by default.

For a matched pair of 1gb dimms you can usually find a kit for about $35 at newegg if you buy through there for standard and value ram on brands like Corsair, Kingston, Crucial GSkill while I would tend to avoid PNY. No info on AllComponents seen at Newegg.com - Computer Hardware,Memory,Desktop Memory,DDR2 667 (PC2 5300),2GB (2 x 1GB)

If your board will take 2gb dimms the prices will vary while the voltage range is 1.8v, 1.8-1.9v for DDR2 memory. Newegg.com - Computer Hardware,Memory,Desktop Memory,DDR2 667 (PC2 5300),4GB (2 x 2GB)

As you will see there's a larger number instock at the moment there for looking over both standard and performance memory to give you some ideas. Be sure to look at the manual however.

as long as they are both ddr2, you can mix them no problem. When mixed, all ddr2 will run at the slowest of the bunch so in your case your ddr2 667 will run at 400 to match the other stick no problems.

You can't mix different types of memory, If you are running standard or value memory you will run into problems adding in performance dimms.

One example would be mixing Kinston Hyper X with their ValueRam. The same brand but a definite clash.

The best move is running all the same. That way if you decide to go from the 32bit into the 64bit Windows or simply want to add more memory later you add more of the same.

not going to be an issue as long as they are not running together in dual channel mode. I have mixed matched RAMs all my life for 10 years and never had a single issue.

You can mix ram and a lot of time your computer will work, sometimes better and some time worse. Do your self a favor and install match ram as per the motherboard specs. Jury rigging ram won't do you any favors.

In the past I have used one running at 333mhz and one running at two hundred and something with no adverse effects so yes it is possible, however..................................
