OK apparently the drive is no good. Son-in-law got another enclosure and same problem, tries to go through the process of installing the drivers then comes with the message that it's not recognised and it can't be seen anywhere.

He said it must be the drive as putting his drive into the enclosures within seconds it's up and running showing the contents no problem.

The drive obviously thought I've had enough and gave up the ghost when hubby finished using the machine and I took it out, it was getting on a bit and it's done sterling work first for me then hubby when I gave the machine to him.

So until I can afford a new external hard drive for hubby's machine I'll have to see if I can share mine so he can backup his work, it's only his Document folder that needs saving as that's where the Excel docs get saved to.

Thanks for all the suggestions and I'm sorry it didn't work out this time.

Joan, thanks for the update. Maybe your hubby could just back-up his docs to a good sized USB falsh drive for now.

The biggest flash drive I've got at present is a 4 GB one, I'll have to see what I've got on that to see if I can let him have that. I have got sharing turned on so at present I can get to his documents from my machine and I've just set up sharing on my external but don't know yet if he's going to be able to use it.
    Thanks Doc.

That's good of you Angelo, I'll do that I'd better get onto Son-in-law and tell him not to take back both enclosures as he's got them at his house and was going to take them back to the shop and sell them then pay me back for the one I paid for.

How do you get to Private messages going to your profile page just shows me Visitor messages ? Found it so scrap that message.
